At 30, Trisha takes up organ-ic cause

Usually associated with campaigns for animals, Trisha is riding a different wave of goodwill this year. Just ahead of  turning 30, the queen bee of K'town tells City Express that she's going 'organ'ic this time around, "This year I'm planning a project on eye and organ donation in the city," says Trisha. Previously known for her association with  animal adoption, cancer-afflicted children and orphanages – one has to wonder what brought on this sudden shift in her philanthropic direction. Trisha immediately gets serious, "I think that there are a lot of misconceptions about organ donation. We haven't figured out the specifics yet, but the hope is to better the awareness level among the public."

On a lighter note Trisha admits that her interest in organ donation may also be a result of her addiction to a medical drama on TV. And not the documentary type. "I am a huge fan of Grey's Anatomy," the actor says with a huge smile. Apparently, in the middle of back-to-back shooting schedules, extensive travel and media appearances, Trisha has managed to power through all the way to the current season (9) of the show, right up to the most recently released episode.

It's been a long journey for the model-turned-actor as she blazed a trail through the film world — delivering hits in Tamil, Telugu and a lone film in Hindi. Having started off on the modelling circuit when she was barely in her  teens, Trisha has been the quintessential Tamil heroine — possibly one of the few who have grown up in Chennai, speak Tamil without an accent and know the way to Kodambakkam. Unfortunately, it turns out that her inspired donation drive may be delayed awhile as the actor will not be in Chennai to blow out her birthday candles.

"I'm going to be in Europe shooting for my film with Jiiva," reveals Trisha, referring to the romantic comedy Endrendum Punnagai that she is working on. "So the organ donation initiative may not take off on my birthday, but as soon as I get back," she promises. You got to hand it to this actor who has something of a reputation for a soft heart — whether campaigning for paws with PETA or thinking up organ donation  awareness initiatives while chilling in front of her TV — there's no question why we love her, both on screen and off.
